Sister Florence Lynch

I was called by God and by Mary to serve them in whatever way they wished. I am from Pottlereagh Carnaros, Kells County, Meath, Ireland.

When I was about 12 years old and on my way home after being confirmed, something greater than myself kept nagging at me to follow Jesus’ way of life. Our family had great devotion to Mary and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our day started and ended with prayer.

Being drawn to religious life, I came to America in 1972 to join the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity and ministered with high-risk youth. After a time of discernment and the influence of Sr. Julia, a Benedictine Sister,  I joined the Benedictine Community.  I eventually became a stationary engineer and taught at Connelly Trade School for 11 years.

Coming from a hard working farm family, helping the poor was a priority in our lives, so this inspired me to form an organization called Angels in Overalls which has outfitted hundreds of needy families with furniture and household goods to this day.

I have had an interesting and joyous journey for 50 years in Community.
