Meet the sisters [view all sisters]

Sister Mary Christine Carlin
I had many people tell me all my life I should be a nun. I used to look at them and say: “I am the last person God would want.” I had bought a house and enjoyed traveling. It wasn’t until I was older and going on retreats that the idea would come to me. When it did it would stay a while and then I would get busy with other things and it would go away. Each time the idea would come it would stay longer. Finally it got to the point where I had to look into religious life to see if it was where I was called to be. I didn’t want to look back later in life and wonder if that was what I was meant to do. Once I started looking into communities I had it narrowed down to five.
The Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh was not one of the original five. I started looking at the Benedictine Sisters at the suggestion of a friend. My first visit was December 31, 1998 for the annual Peace Vigil and as they say the rest was history. I entered the community on September 8, 1999. What a life changing and life giving experience it has been! My favorite times of the year are Holy Week singing the Lamentations and Advent when we “go to Bethlehem”.
Today I work as an RN in Hospice. One of my favorite sayings from the Rule is “So that in all things God may be glorified”. |
