Sister Georgine Schweers
Since I was born in Philadelphia and went to grade school in Illinois, I did not meet my first Benedictine Sister until my parents enrolled me in St. Benedict Academy as a freshman. Shortly after graduation I entered the Community; in September of 1957.
My ministries have varied — teacher (elementary and secondary), working with the elderly, financial/business positions and various duties within the community. My interests include Pirate baseball, Steeler football, music, crocheting, knitting, sewing, crossword puzzles, cards and reading. My favorite move of all time is the “Sound of Music” and my favorite song is “I’ll Walk with God” from the movie, the “Student Prince”.
After over fifty years of living in a religious community I am most grateful for our life of common prayer, our leadership and history and being a part of a wonderful Benedictine family. It has been a very exciting and rewarding experience and I look forward to many more years serving God as a member of the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh. |
