Sister Christine Makowski
My name is Sister Christine and I have lived in the convent for more than 60 years. Living in a religious community has challenged me every day to be “for real”. I recognize the love and support that I have received, the good example of my sisters, the opposition that I sometimes experienced and know that all of these have helped me to discover who I really am.
I often look back over the years and remember the many, many people whose lives I touched and those who have touched mine and I feel a deep sense of awe and gratitude. So many people have taught me to love, to care, to stretch, to forgive, to grow, to dare to be. I am today the person they helped me to become.
My favorite quote from the rule of St. Benedict is: “If today you hear His voice harden not your heart”. I know I hear His voice many times a day in the voices of those who need my help, for whatever reason. I am reminded that whatever I do for these, I do for the God I love and who loves me.
I can truthfully say that my life as a religious has been rich, full, satisfying and rewarding! If asked – Yes, I would do it all over again
