Sister Beth Carrender

I remember always wanting to be like the Sisters in my home parish in Missouri when I was growing up. I came to the Pittsburgh Benedictines as a student Sister in residence from another community to study at Duquesne University in the 1980’s. Drawn to the Benedictine life of prayer and Community while I was here, I transferred my vows in 1990.

God’s faithfulness has been the foundation of my life that has enabled me to do the things I’ve done, and share in the lives of so many wonderful people.

Through my years in religious life I have ministered in education, parish ministry, formation and vocation work. I served the people in the Appalachian areas of Neon, KY and Phelps, KY and was the Youth Development Director for Letcher County Extension 4-H. Currently, I am the pastoral associate at Jesus of the Mountain Catholic Mission in Phelps, KY.

Religious Life is like a good marriage; when you find the right match (Community) you can become all God calls you to be.
