A reason to give…

In 2008 a letter was received at our Monastery, a special thank-you card, from some gentlemen who had come to our door several months earlier in search of food and a friendly face. They were hungry, anxious and desperate, and yet they put their trust in God and the compassion of strangers and turned to us in hope. Their note read:
“... after going about a week on nothing more than milk and molasses, your nunnery blessed us with fruit, groceries, bread and two lunches. This is just our way of saying thank you for truly opening your hearts and God’s home to us.”

This little occurrence has two messages worth noting. The first message is that actions of charity and ministry such as the one above have been an integral and regular part of the life of the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh for over 138 years. The Sisters have not held back for themselves but gladly offered anything they had to those who needed it. We have always believed that God would provide for our needs if we heeded the cry of the poor and less fortunate. This is a living legacy continuing to this day which we are happy to claim. The second message is that:
“It is because of our Partners, our donors, that we have been able to do the work of the Lord. Those who support the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh support a living legacy and touch the lives of thousands of people through our ministry and good works that they will never meet.”
