Our Community
|
Who We Are The Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh is a monastic community of women that live the Rule of St. Benedict. As Benedictines, we balance our days with prayer, monastic community, and ministry. As cenobitic women (living life in a community under the leadership of an elected Prioress), we have received and participate in the Benedictine charism which is: "…to seek God in cenobitic life and to respond in prayer and ministry." The Pittsburgh Benedictines are also people of place. We are involved in and committed to the communities in which we live. We strive to use our gifts to serve others and to promote Gospel values.
Philosophy We believe that as Benedictine Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we strive to be mature Christian women, freely living out the Gospel in a vowed life in religious community according to the Rule of Saint Benedict and the Constitutions of the Federation of Saint Scholastica. We further believe that by living and growing in a prophetic faith community, we develop humanly and spiritually as individuals within an atmosphere of faith, hope and supportive love. We affirm that our life of prayer and our life in community are witnesses in themselves, and overflow into loving concern for our religious community, the people of God, and all creation. Through our lives we witness to the joy and peace inherent in seeking God. :: top of page ::
