St. John Parish
Sister Janet Barnicle reports: “The Parish Social Ministry of St. John's in Plum Boro is the response of this parish as the People of God to the Gospel values of love, justice, freedom and peace through an organized program which addresses the needs of God's people. The duties of the ministry revolve around responses to the needs those surface daily and also predetermined happenings that occur once or twice a year. People with financial needs and family problems can receive tangible help and referrals are made to Catholic Charity-sponsored agencies for counseling services. Parish Social Ministry is a HUB from which flows the various works of charity and justice.
My responsibilities are primarily an outreach process: I assist the bereaved at the time of their loss and provide opportunities for support afterwards. If at any time someone is need of spiritual and /or emotional support, I am able to help. I minister to the homebound both sacramentally and through food drives and distribution.
Presently, I'm in the process of developing an Evangelization program along with parishioners that have shown an interest in participating. Also, a need for a Social Concerns committee has surfaced and who else should be in charge of coordinating it— MOI !”
