Benedictine Sisters Make History

Following the celebration of their 140th anniversary in Pennsylvania on August 29th, the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh made history on September 2nd when they signed a Purcahse Agreement with Pressley Ridge, a child welfare agency, on the sale of their property at 4530 Perrysville Avenue.

The Sisters are currently looking for property within the northern 79 corridor upon which to build a new Monastery, or for an existing building that can be renovated to meet their needs. They must locate to a more efficient property, one that better utilizes their limited resources and allows them to accommodate and better meet the spiritual and diverse physical needs of the Sisters and the people they serve. Their goals include taking the core of their monastic charism - to seek God in community and to respond in prayer and life-giving service - into a new place where the Sisters will identify needs and develop new services in keeping with the Benedictine tradition.

American City Bureau, a national development consulting firm, has been retained to conduct a developmental study to evaluate the fundraising potential to assist with the costs associated with purchasing land and building a new Monastery, or purchasing and renovating an existing building. The Sisters anticipate receiving results of the study in December 2010.
